Billy’s Street Mission & Beyond
Texas has one of the highest euthanasia rates in the country, and at the same time, thousands of dogs are still living on the streets. The shelters are full. The streets are full. Nothing slows down because nothing at the root is being fixed.
Most of my work is in the Rio Grande Valley. If you’ve never been, it’s hard to understand how bad it is. Dogs everywhere. Injured, starving, dumped, breeding. Some make it. A lot don’t.
Billy’s Street is one of those places that doesn’t change. Same dogs. Same conditions. Same level of need. The only reason some of them are still alive is because of the people feeding them with whatever they can afford that day.
That’s where this mission sits. Not just pulling dogs, but supporting what’s already happening on the ground. Food. Basic care. Backing the people who are already trying to keep these dogs alive.
When we can take dogs, we do. But getting them out isn’t simple. They have to go through quarantine in Texas, get vetted, and then transported out. It’s time, money, and coordination for every single dog.
This isn’t just about rescue. It’s about working in the place that’s creating the problem in the first place. Because if you ignore the street, you’re not actually solving anything.
Stay tuned to learn how you can help feed a hungry stray dog right here in America…
